NEWARK, N.J. – The St. John's women's tennis team won its second-straight match Friday night, defeating the NJIT Highlanders, 4-2, at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
"I am extremely proud of the team tonight. We battled to capture the doubles point which enabled us to carry that momentum into the singles matches," said head coach Lauren Leo.
After losing the first match in doubles play on the No. 3 court, St. John's (6-3) quickly won the remaining two matches, earning them the first point of the contest. Jessica Livianu and Najah Dawson forced a decisive third doubles match, narrowly defeating NJIT's Holly Matson and Joleta Budiman, 7-5.
Oceane Garibal and Olaya Inclan Solis battled NJIT's Advaita Saravanan and Brianne Omar to a 6-6 deadlock in the last doubles match. The Red Storm duo won the last point to clinch the doubles point, defeating Saravanan and Omar, 7-6.
In singles play, Livianu quickly won her No. 1 singles contest against Joleta Budiman, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Johnnies their second point of the match.

Dawson lost a highly-contested match in the No. 2 match to Mouna Bouzgarrou, 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, to shrink St. John's lead to just two points.
Senior Delia Arranz sealed the match for the Johnnies, outdueling Mayar Eltony in three-sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
