The Red Storm’s loss to the Golden Eagles marks the squad’s first conference defeat of the season
MILWAUKEE – The St. John's women's tennis squad dropped its first BIG EAST contest of the weekend on Friday, suffering its lone conference loss of the season to Marquette, 4-0.
In doubles action, the Golden Eagles gained the first point of the match, taking the first two doubles contests. Jessica Livianu, partnered with Najah Dawson, lost her first match of the season, losing on the No. 1 court to Marquette's Fleur Eggnik and Natalija Popovic, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles clinched the doubles point in the No. 3 contest as Lesley Foe and Milica Novakovic defeated Gabriela Tenorio and Delia Arranz, 7-5.
Marquette won singles matches at the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 positions to secure a victory over the Johnnies.
In the No. 3 contest, senior Olaya Inclan Solis fell to Milica Novakovic in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.
Marquette's Elisabeth Desmarais defeated Arranz on the No. 5 court inb straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
In the No. 6 match, Tenorio lost to Lesley Foe in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Livianu, Dawson, and Oceane Garibal went unfinished in their matches on the No. 1, No. 2, and No.4 contests.
St. John's returns to action on Sunday, April 7, as they travel to Chicago to battle BIG EAST rival DePaul at 4 p.m.
