Gretchen Bowie hit third home run in four games
BRONX, N.Y. (May 1, 2019) – The St. John's softball team drops its midweek match, 10-2, in five innings to Fordham at Bahoshy Field on Wednesday.
Junior Gretchen Bowie smacked her third home run in four games with a two-run shot in the third inning. The Sparta, N.J., native's dinger is her ninth of the season, scoring a team-leading 43 runs.
Marissa Rizzi, Christina Melendez and Amelia Ditolvo also recorded one hit in the contest.
Following a three-run second inning by Fordham, the Johnnies cut their deficit in the third with one swing by Bowie. Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week drilled her two-run shot to center after Meisha Murray reached on an error slashing the Rams' lead, 3-2.
Fordham responded with a four-run bottom of the third before adding three more in the fourth to take a 10-2 advantage.
The Red Storm will look to capture the BIG EAST regular season title this weekend as the team travels to Butler for a three-game set on May 4-5.
