St. John’s Vies For BIG EAST Regular Season Title against Butler

The Red Storm is 13-4 all-time against the Bulldogs
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 3, 2019) – The St. John's softball team will look to claim the top seed in the BIG EAST Softball Championship, taking on Butler in Indianapolis for the final series of the regular season, beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcast live on Facebook (Butler Bulldogs), followed by a showdown on the BIG EAST Digital Network streamed by CaffeineTV on Sunday. Live stats can be found at ButlerSports.com.
Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Gretchen Bowie smacked her third home run in four games during Wednesday's loss to Fordham. The Johnnies' third baseman has been successful over the past 10 games, leading the team with 11 hits, 10 runs scored and 11 RBIs.
Bowie shined against Butler in 2018, batting .700 with three of her seven hits going over the fence. The junior compiled eight RBIs and five runs scored over the Red Storm's trio of victories.
Against conference opponents this season, the Sparta, N.J., native along with Marissa Rizzi, Peyton Cody, Laura Delgado and Christina Melendez are all batting over .360 with at least 15 hits, 10 RBIs and two home runs apiece. The five Johnnies have combined for 66 of the team's 110 runs across 16 BIG EAST games.
Senior ace Madison Morris will look to remain undefeated against conference opponents, posting a 10-0 record with two saves in 12 appearances. She ranks inside the top-five in several statistical categories over league play including, earned run average (3.02), opposing batting average (.241), innings pitched (162.0), strikeouts (164), wins (17), and saves (2).
St. John's boasts a 13-4 all-time record against Butler, including a seven-game winning streak versus its BIG EAST foe. St. John's enters the weekend undefeated (6-0) in Indianapolis, sweeping the Bulldogs in 2015 and 2017.
Butler has been eliminated from postseason play, going 15-31 overall with a 3-11 record against conference opponents.
Lauren Fey leads the Bulldogs' lineup with a .317 batting average while recording 16 runs and 10 RBIs through 45 appearances.
Freshman Karli Ricketts serves as both a pitcher and a hitter for the Bulldogs. In the circle, she paces the staff with six wins, 10 complete games and 169 strikeouts through 136.2 innings of work. At the dish, the rookie leads the team in RBIs with 20.
