Naya Lipkens registered six saves for the Red Storm

The St. John's women's soccer team fell to Rutgers, 1-0, in the team's preseason opener at Yurcak Field on Monday evening .

The Scarlet Knights, who reached the opening round of last year's NCAA Tournament, took the lead in the 46th minute when senior Megan Katona found the back of the net.

After sitting out last season due to injury, Naya Lipkens put forth a stellar effort for the Red Storm between the pipes. The redshirt freshman stopped a total of six shots on target for the Johnnies.

St. John's will welcome Rider to Belson Stadium on Aug. 16 for its final exhibition match, kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Johnnies will officially begin the 2019 season on Aug. 22 with a trip to Harrisonburg, Va., for the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational at Sentara Park. The Johnnies will kick off play on Aug. 22 with a contest against Cincinnati before taking on JMU on Aug. 25.
