Natalie Alheidt and Amy Mallah sign National Letters of Intent
QUEENS, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2019) – St. John's Softball Head Coach Bob Guerriero announced the signings of Natalie Alheidt and Amy Mallah to National Letters of Intent on Friday afternoon.
"Both Natalie and Amy bring a tremendous amount of success," Coach Guerriero said. "Their winning mentality fits the ideals of being a member of the St. John's softball team. The two of them, plus Mia [Faieta] and Erin [Brown], round out a high quality signing class with players who want to be here in Queens and most importantly, want to win."
Alheidt joins the Red Storm from Vernon High School in New Jersey. The recent graduate finished her Vikings career with a .368 batting average and a .415 on base percentage. She smacked 109 career hits, drilling 16 over the outfield fence to break Vernon's home run record. The four-time letterwinner not only snapped the career dinger mark, she also belted eight round-trippers in her senior campaign to set a new Vikings' record and rank second in Northwest New Jersey.
Alheidt earned two First Team All-Conference and All-Area selections following her junior and senior campaigns, while also finding a spot on NJ.com's Top 36 list in 2019. The former Viking registered 92 career starts, not missing a single game in her four seasons.
Mallah will join the Red Storm alongside Alheidt in 2019, bringing a plethora of championship wins and clutch moments to Queens.
The newest member of the Red Storm family propelled the East Meadow Lady Jets to its third-straight Long Island Class AA Softball Championship in 2019 with a two-run double in the team's 10-0 victory over Commack. This came days after Mallah went 3-for-4 and scored the winning run on a bobbled relay throw in the Nassau County Class AA title game to down Oceanside, 7-5.
Mallah earned a spot on the All-State Second Team, while also picking up First Team All-Long Island and All-Nassau County honors in back-to-back campaign. The East Meadow native racked up 37 hits, 11 of which cleared the outfield wall to lead Long Island in homers. Over her four-year tenure, she registered a .493 batting average with a 1.053 slugging percentage. In addition, Mallah recorded 44 RBIs and 34 runs scored in her time with the Lady Jets.
Alheidt and Mallah join pitchers Mia Faieta and Erin Brown in the St. John's Softball Signing Class of 2019.
Faieta, who plays alongside Alheidt on the NJ Fight, wrapped up her final season at Cedar Grove with a trip to the New Jersey Tournament of Champions after leading her team with a 26-4 record. She also became the 19th player in New Jersey to eclipse 1,000 strikeouts for her career (1,204) against Wayne Valley. After a dominant senior season, the New Jersey native landed on the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association's (NFCA) All-East Region First Team after picking up All-State Second Team and All-Group One First Team selections.
In her final season with La Reina, Brown won her third consecutive Tri-Valley Pitcher of the Year award and earned a spot on the All-League First Team. The recent graduate shut down the opposition over her four seasons, posting a career 0.93 ERA along with 37 victories and 517 punchouts. In 2019, Brown recorded 12 hits, four runs scored and a trio of RBIs to go along with her six wins in the circle.
