Red Storm to play eight games across four weekends
QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2019) – Coming off a stellar 2019 campaign that included the program's third BIG EAST Regular Season title in five years, St. John's Head Coach Bob Guerriero has announced the 2019 fall ball schedule on Thursday.
The recent 2019 campaign led to a string of ten postseason accolades, as Peyton Cody earned Co-Freshman of the Year. St. John's Coaching Staff secured top conference honors. Madison Morris was named unanimous Pitcher of the Year. Cody and Morris also joined Gretchen Bowie, Laura Delgado, Christina Melendez and Marissa Rizzi on the All-BIG EAST First Team, while Kaitlin Mattera landed on the conference's second team.
The fall campaign will feature eight games in New York, including a pair at Red Storm Field to prepare the Johnnies for the upcoming 2020 slate.
St. John's wrapped up the 2019 regular season with a 26-24 overall record, including a league-best 14-4 record in BIG EAST play.
The Johnnies will open up play at the St. John's Fall Invite, taking on Iona and Fairleigh Dickinson at home on Sept. 21. First pitch with the Gaels is slated for 11 a.m., with the FDU game to follow at approximately 1 p.m.
Iona finished its season with a 19-27 overall record while wrapping up MAAC play in fourth at 12-8. Fairleigh Dickinson nabbed just 14 wins last season, falling in its last three games.
The following weekend, the Red Storm travels to Brookvale, N.Y., to take on Hofstra and LIU at noon and 4:30 p.m.
The Pride is coming off of a 20-27 campaign under first year Head Coach Jay Miller. Hofstra downed the Johnnies at the St. John's Invitational on March 15 by a score of 9-3. St. John's and the new-look LIU Sharks will meet for the first time since the Brooklyn and Brookville campuses officially merged.
Seven days later, the Red Storm will head into to Columbia to take on the Lions and Wagner at Columbia Softball Stadium on Oct. 5. The Johnnies and the Lions are slated for a 1 p.m. start, followed by a meeting with the Seahawks at approximately 3 p.m.
Columbia is coming off the best season of its 20-year history, setting a program record with 15 wins in Ivy League play. The Lions also put together back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2001-02. St. John's and Wagner met in the 2019 regular season, where the Red Storm knocked off the Seahawks, 13-9, at the St. John's Invitational on March 15.
The Johnnies will wrap up the fall slate with a home doubleheader against Rider, beginning at 11 a.m. The Broncs finished 2019 with a three-game winning streak to lift the squad to 10 wins on the season.
