Kramer brings championship experience back to Queens after playing on the 2015 BIG EAST Championship team
QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 4, 2019) – St. John's Softball Head Coach Bob Guerriero has announced the hiring of former Red Storm standout Grace Kramer as a volunteer assistant coach. Kramer, who won a BIG EAST title with the Red Storm in 2015, will work primarily with the Johnnies' pitching staff.
"We are thrilled to bring Grace onto our staff for this coming season," Guerriero said. "She brings a high-level of experience and knowledge back to St. John's and we look forward to watching her mentor and develop our young pitchers."
The Johnnies' coaching staff adds an experienced pitcher who boasted 27 wins, four saves and 380 strikeouts during her four-year career in red. After making 17 appearances during the BIG EAST Championship run in 2015, Kramer emerged as a leader in the circle over the next two seasons, appearing in 55 games and earning 24 wins during that span, which included a BIG EAST regular season title in 2017. She also captured a trio of BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week awards along with four Weekly Honor Roll selections.
"I am grateful to be returning to St. John's to give back to the school and the program that gave me so much," Kramer said. "It's an exciting time to be a Johnnie. I'm especially excited for the opportunity to work with the talented group of girls on this year's roster."
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in marketing and with the BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Award following the 2017 season, Kramer pursued an MBA in International Business while serving as a graduate assistant in the Student-Athlete Development office at St. John's. In addition to mentoring fellow Johnnies, she also worked as a marketing intern for ProHEALTH Dental Management.
Following her master's graduation in 2018, Kramer was promoted to Marketing Coordinator at ProHEALTH before taking assistant coaching duties at Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School this past season. As a member of the Crusaders coaching staff, Kramer assisted with day-to-day practice schedules and game plans while the program entered a new division with a higher level of play. In addition to her duties at McClancy, Kramer also worked with aspiring softball players as a private instructor for girls ages 6-17 over the last three years.
"It's going to be a great year, and I can't wait to hit the ground running," Kramer said.
