Red Storm will look to top the Seawolves for the fourth-straight season
After splitting a pair of decisions last week, the St. John's women's soccer team will travel to Stony Brook for a Thursday evening matchup. First kick is slated for 7 p.m. at LaValle Stadium.
Â
Thursday's contest with the Seawolves will be available to live stream at Americaeast.TV.
Â
Last Friday, the Johnnies used a golden goal from All-BIG EAST Preseason Selection Zsani Kajan in the 105th minute to down Yale, 2-1, before falling at Notre Dame on Sunday. For her efforts in Friday's match with the Bulldogs, Kajan earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time this season.
Â
Freshmen Isabelle Aviza and Jessica Garziano have also been vital to the Red Storm's offensive efforts in the early going this season. Aviza registered her first career goal during the Johnnies' 2-1 win over Yale while Garziano picked up a pair of assists in matchups with Yale and James Madison.Â
Â
Thursday's contest will mark the 35th all-time meeting between the programs with St. John's leading the series, 22-13. In last year's matchup between the two teams, Kajan had a career night for the Red Storm at Belson Stadium, recording a hat trick to power the Red Storm to a 5-1 victory.
Â
Kajan's three-goal performance marked the first such effort by a St. John's player since Oct. 11, 2015, when Rachel Daly scored three times in a 4-0 win over Creighton at Belson Stadium.
Â
Stony Brook enters Saturday's contest with a record of 3-1-0 on the season. After kicking off the year with three-straight wins over Northeastern, Manhattan and Delaware, the Seawolves fell to Saint Joseph's, 1-0, on Sunday.
Â
Junior Chelsie DePonte leads the team with five points on the season. She recorded a brace in the program's opener against Northeastern and added an assist on Friday against Delaware. Five different players have found the back of the net for the Seawolves this season.
Â
Stony Brook has won its last eight home regular season contests and 11 of the previous 12 at LaValle.
