A four-time All-Star and three-time World Series Champion, Gooden played 16 seasons in the majors, including 11 years with the Mets from 1984-1994. He led the league in strikeouts during each of his first two seasons with the Mets in 1984 and 1985, earning rookie of the year honors in 1984 before taking home the Cy Young Award as the league's top pitcher in 1985. During that 1985 campaign, he went 24-4 with a 1.53 ERA and 16 complete games, all of which led the league. After helping lead the Mets to the World Series in 1986, Gooden would win two more with the Yankees in 1996 and 2000. Gooden struck out more than 2,000 batters during his MLB career.
Â
Another young phenom on the 1986 Mets, Strawberry won his rookie of the year award the season prior to Gooden, hitting 26 homers and driving in 74 runs in 1983. Beginning in 1984, Strawberry would go on to make eight consecutive all-star appearances, including a 1988 effort that saw him lead the league with 39 homers and finish second in the MVP voting. He also won the first of two Silver Slugger awards that same season. In 17 years as a major leaguer, Strawberry hit 335 homers and drove in exactly 1,000 runs. He was a part of four World Series teams, winning in 1986 with the Mets before taking home hardware with the Yankees in 1996, 1998 and 1999.Â
Â
A former All-American at Clemson, Teufel came up with Minnesota before being traded to the Mets prior to the 1986 World Series campaign. After closing out his playing career with San Diego in 1993, Tuefel turned to coaching. He managed at several levels in the Mets organizing before taking over as the team's third base coach in 2011, helping lead the team to the World Series in 2015 and an additional playoff appearance the following year. He currently serves as a minor league instructor and club ambassador with the organization.
Â
A number of other recognizable names are scheduled to appear at the event, including, but not limited to, St. John's greats John Franco and Joe Panik.
Â
The reception will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner and the evening's program set to commence at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the cost of $400 per person, but tables of 10 can be purchased for $3,750. St. John's Baseball graduates of the past decade can secure tickets to the event for $325.
