Karen will join her sister Jill Beglin and the Johnnies in the fall of 2021
St. John's women's golf head coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo announced the signing of Karen Beglin, who will join the Johnnies in the fall of 2021.
Beglin, a product of Carson City, Nev., will play alongside her sister Jill Beglin who joined the Johnnies a season ago.
"I am very excited for Karen to join our program," said Bishop-Santillo. "She has had an outstanding junior golf career and I look for her to bring that same success to our program in the future."
Beglin is a two-year captain at Carson High School where she is coming off a successful 2019 season that saw her claim Northern Nevada's 4A Player of Year. Beglin won the Northern Regional title, turning in scores of 74 and 72 before finishing fifth at the girl's state golf tournament with rounds of 79 and 77 for the second time in her career.
The Carson City, Nev., native is also a three-time First Team All-Conference selection and has earned First Team All-State recognition in back-to-back seasons.
On the junior circuit, Beglin has qualified for the Junior World Championships and the Girls Junior Americas Cup three times each. In 2020, Beglin claimed Northern Nevada Golf Association (NNGA) Women's Amateur Championship. She fired rounds of 72 and 66 to finish 12 strokes clear of the field. This year, Beglin also claimed medalist honors at the 2020 JGANC Lincoln Hills Junior Championship, turning in back-to-back 74s before finishing third at the 2020 Sacramento Junior Open (77-76).
Beglin's talents go beyond the course as she has excelled in the classroom over her high school career, boasting a 4.0 unweighted GPA. Beglin is also part of the Student Council, National Honor Society and the Athletic Leadership Council. In addition, Beglin was elected as the Student-Body Vice President this year.
