London Jarrard and Carolina Zamudio Ink National Letters of Intent
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Head Softball Coach Bob Guerriero announced on Monday the signings of London Jarrard and Carolina Zamudio to National Letters of Intent.
Jarrard, a California native, will head to Queens following her senior season as a member of the Carlsbad High School Lancers. Jarrard is a middle infielder with a strong arm and range to go with a powerful bat from the left side of the plate. The Golden State standout has posted a .403 batting average over her high school career to go along with five home runs and 28 RBIs. Jarrard was named to the First Team All Avocado West League during her sophomore season.
"London will help fill a gap in the middle infield and bring us some much-needed left-handed power," said Guerriero. "She is athletic and can be a multi-dimensional player for us."
In addition to what she has done as a member of the Lancers, Jarrard plays her travel ball for Breakers Lab. The middle infielder also plays basketball and volleyball at Carlsbad High School. She has excelled in the classroom as well, compiling a 3.86 GPA during her time in high school. The Carlsbad native becomes the fourth Californian to be recruited by Coach Guerriero and his staff over the last two years.
Zamudio, a native of Mexico City, is a pitcher who will bring experience of playing on the international stage to Queens. The right-hander has been a member of the Mexican Junior National Team since 2017. She has participated in the 2017 U19 WBSC World Championship, the 2019 U19 WBSC World Championship and the 2019 U18 WBSC Pan-Americans in which Mexico captured a silver medal. She has played travel ball with the Virginia Sting since 2019.
"Carolina has the experience of performing at the international level while pitching for the Mexican Junior National Team," said Guerriero. "We know that experience will be a tremendous asset when she plays at the Division I level. I am expecting Carolina to be an immediate contributor to our team."
Dominance in the circle has been a key to the Red Storm's recent BIG EAST success, as the Johnnies finished the 2015 and 2017 seasons near the top of the conference in ERA. The Red Storm went on to capture the regular season title in both seasons, as well as the BIG EAST Tournament Title in 2015.
Jarrard and Zamudio join catcher/corner infielder Anese Thompson in Guerriero's 2021 recruiting class. Thompson, like Jarrard, is a California native who has sustained a .344 batting average over her career at Buena High School.
