QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2020) – After a dominant weekend at the Cardinal Classic, Gretchen Bowie has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Kaitlyn Lologo earns her first career honor roll selection in an announcement madeby the conference on Monday.
This marks the seventh time in program history that two Johnnies have been named to the league's weekly awards. The last time a pair was selected in the same week, Bowie and Marissa Rizzi put forth a stellar three-game slate against BIG EAST rival Villanova on April 29, 2019.
The Sparta, N.J., native recorded a team-high 12 hits in 20 at-bats, five of which went for extra bases and two were hit over the outfield wall. Bowie posted a slash line of .600/.618/1.100 in Beaumont, while also racking up eight RBIs and six runs scored in five contests.
This marks the fourth time in the Bowie's career that she has been recognized by the conference. With her fourth player of the week award, Bowie has captured the most BIG EAST top player accolades in program history. However, the senior captain sits just two away from former teammate Madison Morris' program-record of six BIG EAST major weekly awards.
Lologo played an important part in the Red Storm's two wins this weekend, serving as the team's leadoff batter and first baseman. The sophomore smacked four of her seven hits in the final two games against Northern Colorado while also crossing the plate four times. She also swiped two bases and drove in a pair of runs during the five-game slate.
The Irvine, Calif., native also composed herself at first base after receiving her first two career starts at the position. Defensively, Lologo converted on 34 of her 35 putout opportunities while also turning an unassisted double play.
Bowie, Lologo and the Red Storm will return to action this weekend in California at the San Diego Classic, opening the five-game slate against Long Beach State on Friday, Feb. 28.
