BOSTON (March 5, 2020) – Former Red Storm defenseman and two-time All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Aidan Marron was one of eight players selected by the Boston Cannons in this week's Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Supplemental Draft.
The Durham, N.C., native collected 33 groundballs and 27 caused turnovers in 55 games played for the Red Storm from 2016-2019.
The long-stick defender earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team last season, compiling 16 groundballs and causing 10 turnovers in 14 starts. Marron also recorded the first goal of his career against Michigan on March 2, 2019.
The North Carolina native was also the first player to participate in the USILA All-Star Game since 2014, when former Johnnies Kieran McArdle, Kevin Cernuto, and Ryan Fitzgerald all represented St. John's. Marron became the 15th athlete in program history to make his way to Maryland for the contest.
Marron, a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, graduated with a degree in business management last May, compiling a GPA of over 3.3 during his time in Queens. Due to his academic prowess, the St. John's alumna became the third player in program history to be named a USILA Scholar All-American last year.
"Aidan went from being an under-the-radar recruit to an All-BIG EAST selection and USILA Scholar All-American," stated St. John's Lacrosse Head Coach Jason Miller. "Less than a year after graduating, he has a full-time job and is now a professional athlete. It's how it's supposed to work; we are thrilled for him."
Marron will join the Cannons for the beginning of training camp in May. The Cannons are set to kick off the 2020 season on the road against the New York Lizards on Saturday, May 30.
