St. John’s in Fifth After Day One of the Lonnie Barton Invitational

Jack Simon and Tyler Gerbavsits lead the way for the Johnnies
Through 18 holes at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, sophomore's Jack Simon and Tyler Gerbavsits each fired off a 73 to lead St. John's on Monday at the LPGA International-Jones Course.
Following round one, Simon and Gerbavsits sit in a six-way tie for third. As a team, the Red Storm recorded a combined score of 303 to sit fifth overall in the standings and eight-shots back of Fairleigh Dickinson in first.
Freshman Alex Kyriacou turned in a 76 on the day and is currently in an eight-way tie for 18th place. Senior Gerald Mackedon, who is playing as an individual, finished one-stroke back of Kyriacou with a 77.
Also playing as an individual, Gage Wolfle shot a 79 on the day.
Sophomore Joseph Busiello and freshman Ryan Rittberger rounded out scoring for the Red Storm with an 81 and 82, respectively.
Fairleigh Dickinson holds a two-stroke lead over second place Sacred Heart. The Knights recorded a team score of 295 (+7).
Individually, the Knight's Andrew Morris and Iona's Justin Burkhamer are tied for first, each shooting an even-par 72.
The Red Storm returns to the course tomorrow morning, as the golfers tee off at 8:45 a.m. for the final round of action.
