Madsen is the first Johnnie to be selected in the Maverik/Inside Lacrosse All-American list
BALTIMORE (April 1, 2020) – St. John's senior midfielder Mike Madsen was named a 2020 Maverik/Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention, as announced by Inside Lacrosse on Wednesday morning. The Locust Valley, N.Y., native is the first player in program history to be recognized by Inside Lacrosse since the magazine released its first postseason All-American list in 2017.
Inside Lacrosse contributors and members of lacrosse media were tasked with choosing the season's top 12 attackers, nine midfielders, 12 defenders, top three draw specialists, and top three goalies. Honorable mention selections were chosen based on players who received multiple votes but did not gather the totals of the first, second, or third honorees.
"We are so proud of Mike. He exemplifies in every aspect what we want lacrosse at St. John's to be," stated Head Coach Jason Miller. "I couldn't be happier for him to be recognized as one of the nation's best."
The 2020 BIG EAST Preseason Team selection proved to be one of the top scoring threats in the conference this season, leading the Red Storm with 25 goals through seven games. His seven man-up goals were tied for the nation lead at the end of the season.
The Locust Valley, N.Y., native registered three seven-point performances in 2020 and was a two-time BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week. The senior fired a career-best, six goals in the Red Storm's 16-9 triumph over Siena at DaSilva Memorial Field on Mar. 7. Madsen became the 12th Johnnie in program history to record his 100th career point in St. John's 17-15 victory over LIU.
