Five Johnnies Named WGCA All-American Scholars

Sanchez, Kweon, Clocchiatti, Beglin and Barro recognized by WGCA
Five St. John's women's golfers were named to the 2019-20 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team.
Andrea Sanchez, Jessie Kweon, Cloe Clocchiatti, Jill Beglin and Laia Barro were all recognized for their academic success.
A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers were acknowledged for maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
For the second-straight season, Sanchez earned a spot on the All-American Scholar Team as the rising senior recorded a 77.54 stroke average across five tournaments. The Cancun native's top finish came at the Benbow Invitational where she closed out play in a tie for third, helping lift St. John's to a first-place finish.
Rising junior Kweon found a spot on the All-American Scholar Team for the first time. The Little Neck, N.Y., native posted a 76.54 stroke average over her most recent season. Kweon also turned in her best performance at the Benbow Invitational, where she led the way for the Johnnies with a second-place finish.
Rookies Clocchiatti, Beglin and Barro all received the prestigious honor following their first collegiate season. Clochiatti recorded a 78.18 scoring average and two top-10 finishes. Beglin turned in a 79.18 stroke average with a pair of top-25 efforts. Barro wrapped up her rookie year with a 78.72 scoring average and two-top 10 performances.
As a team, the Johnnies closed out the 2019-20 campaign with a pair of team titles at both the Lehigh and Benbow Invitational.
