Claire Mooney Takes Third Place in 800 Meters at the Irish National Championships

Mooney was named a USTFCCCA Outdoor All-American at St. John’s in 2016
QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2020) – Former St. John's USTFCCCA Outdoor Track & Field All-American Claire Mooney competed in the Irish National Championships on Sunday, earning a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.53.
In 2017, the Red Storm's 800-meter record holder secured second place at the Irish National Championships after clocking a time of 2:04.23.
"We congratulate Claire on her podium finish in the 800 meters," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "This has been a difficult time for track & field athletes but to see Claire continue to work hard and achieve great things is inspiring to us all."
Mooney cemented her name all over the St. John's record books during her five years in Queens, holding two school records in the 800 meters and the 800-meter relay. She also has the fastest indoor 500-meter time in program history with a mark of 1:10.90.
The Kildare, Ireland, native closed out her collegiate career with a trip to the 2016 NCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships and collected a total of four All-BIG EAST indoor team selections and two outdoor All-BIG EAST accolades.
