St. John’s Travels to Villanova for Monday Matchup

The Johnnies and the Wildcats will tip off at 7 p.m. on FS1
The St. John's women's basketball team will continue its three-game road swing on Monday when the Johnnies travel to Villanova for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Wildcats.
The contest between the Red Storm (4-8, 1-6 BIG EAST) and Villanova (8-2, 3-2 BIG EAST) will be broadcast live on FS1 with Noah Eagle and Ros Gold-Onwude on the call.
Facing the Wildcats for the second time this season, St. John's will look to avenge a 74-65 setback on Dec. 6 at Carnesecca Arena. Sophomore guard Leilani Correa paced the way offensively for the Red Storm in the two teams' first meeting of the season with a game-high 21 points. The Manchester, N.J., native, who leads the team in steals this season with 1.5 per game, also registered a team-best four thefts against the Wildcats.
A bright spot for the Johnnies of late has been the play of senior guard Qadashah Hoppie, who has scored in double-figures in all eight games that she has played in this season. Most recently, the 5-foot-9 guard registered a team-best 18 points against Seton Hall on Wednesday. The Staten Island native is averaging a team-high 18.0 points per game this season, to go along with 3.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest.
Villanova enters Monday's matchup with the Red Storm following a 19-day layoff due to COVID-19 issues within the program. The Wildcats last played on Jan. 6, when they picked up a 78-71 victory over Seton Hall at Walsh Gymnasium.
Maddy Siegrist leads Villanova in both scoring and rebounding, averaging a league-best 24.0 points and 11.1 boards per game. Two other Wildcats are boasting double figures this season, including Brianna Herlihy, who is chipping in 14.9 ppg and Sarah Mortensen, who is averaging 13.0 ppg. As a team, Villanova sits second in the conference in assists with 20.0 per contest. Senior guard Raven James leads the team in dimes with a combined 41 this season.
Monday will mark the 81st all-time meeting between the two programs with Villanova leading the series, 42-38. St. John's has come up short in five of the last six meetings with the Wildcats. The Red Storm last upended Villanova on Feb. 22, 2019 at Finneran Pavilion, where former Johnnie Alisha Kebbe stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks to lift the Red Storm to a 66-62 victory.
