St. John’s to Travel to Georgetown and Villanova

The Red Storm will visit our Nation’s Capital in the first of two road matches
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2021) – After a split weekend at home, the St. John's volleyball team is set to travel to Georgetown and Villanova for a weekend of BIG EAST road matchups.
The Johnnies return to action against Georgetown on Friday at 5 p.m. before facing Villanova the following day at 7 p.m. The match against Georgetown will be streamed and available behind a paywall on GUHoyas.com. The Villanova match can be found on FloSports.
In conjunction with St. John's Athletics Homecoming Weekend, the Red Storm hosted both Xavier and Butler last weekend. St. John's dominated in the match against Xavier sweeping the Musketeers with set scores of 28-26, 25-20, and 25-20. Rachele Rastelli and Giorgia Walther both tallied 16 kills and 10 digs in the victory. In the four-set loss against Butler, the Red Storm took the first set, 26- 24, before narrowly dropping the second set, 27-25. The Bulldogs took the final two sets with scores of 25-14 and 25-17, respectively.
For the third time this season, Rastelli was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after notching 34 kills on the entire weekend. On Saturday, the senior moved into sixth place on the program's career kills list passing Hui Ping Huang (2005-2007) who had 1,300. Entering the week, Rastelli boasts 1,326 kills for her St. John's career.
On the national leaderboard, St. John's players continue to sit in top spots in multiple statistical categories. Rastelli is currently tied for third in the nation in total points with 452.5 and fifth in total kills with 386. She is also no. 19 with 5.14 points per set, no. 19 with 4.39 kills per set and no. 30 with 904 total attacks. Tiziana Baumrukova is tied for 34th with 795 total assists while Ariadni Kathariou is tied for 33rd with 94 total blocks.
St. John's currently ranks eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST standings boasting a .400 win percentage in conference play and a .542 clip overall. The Red Storm is ranked 68th in RPI. The mark is fourth in the conference after Creighton (14), Marquette (16) and Connecticut (66).
Georgetown did not compete in the Spring 2021 shortened season and was consequently chosen to finish last in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Currently, the Hoyas sit in last place in the BIG EAST standings with a 1-9 league mark and a 5-16 overall record. Last Friday, then-No. 24 Creighton defeated Georgetown in three sets before Providence repeated the action on Sunday. Georgetown is led offensively by freshman Giselle Williams, who averages 2.79 kills per set, and defensively by sophomore Chanelle Smith with 1.16 blocks per set.
St. John's has dominated the overall series with the Hoyas, 23-10.
Villanova was chosen to finish fifth in the preseason poll after completing last spring with a 3-5 record in conference play. The Wildcats are currently in seventh place with a 12-10 overall record and a 4-6 mark in league action. Villanova lost in straight sets to both Providence and then- No. 24 Creighton last weekend. The Wildcats will host Seton Hall on Friday before facing the Johnnies on Saturday. Villanova returns Preseason All-BIG EAST pick Averi Salvador, who leads the team with 4.31 digs per set.
