Men’s Golf Concludes Round One of UConn Invitational at GreatHorse

Gage Wolfle leads the way for St. John’s after 18 holes
The St. John's men's golf team posted a combined score of 299 during the opening round of the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse to sit in a tie for eighth place after 18 holes.
Junior Gage Wolfle paced the field for the Red Storm, shooting a team-best 73 on the afternoon to conclude the day in a tie for 19th place. Wolfle's first-round effort was highlighted by a trio of birdies on the day.
Senior Tyler Gerbavsits finished one-stroke back of Wolfle, firing off a 74 on the afternoon to place inside the top-25 following round one. The Huntington, N.Y., native birdied on the par-4 18th hole.
Freshman Peicheng Chen drained a pair of birdies on the day, signing off on a first-round 75.
Seniors Jack Simon and Joseph Busiello rounded out scoring for the Red Storm, both shooting a 77 in the opening round.
Rhode Island paces the field with combined 6-under 282. Leading the Individuals is Army's John Heckel Jr., who carded a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke lead.
