Men’s Golf Concludes Play at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse

Chen leads the way for St. John’s at the 54-hole event
The St. John's men's golf team wrapped up action at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse on Tuesday.
Rhode Island claimed the team title by shooting an 11-over 875 and beating second place Connecticut by two strokes. UConn's Caleb Manuel earned medalist honors with a score of 11-under 205 to sit six shots clear of runner up Justin Burkhamer of Iona.
Following a solid performance through the first two rounds, freshman Peicheng Chen rounded out the event in a tie for 15th place, signing off on three-round 75-72-75-222. The rookie drained a combined six birdies at the three day 54-hole event.
Finishing seven strokes back of Chen was seniors Jack Simon and Joseph Busiello. Simon, a product of Sparta, N.J., led the Johnnies in round three scoring, carding a 74 over the final 18 holes. Simon and Busiello both turned in a 229 (+13) at the three-day event.
Checking in just behind Simon and Busiello was junior Gage Wolfle, who shot a 73-77-80-230. Senior Tyler Gerbavsits rounded out scoring for the Red Storm, registering a 74-79-78-231.
As a team, the Red Storm finished in 11th place with a combined score of 905 (+41).
St. John's will return to action on Oct. 11, when the team travels to Kingston, N.Y., for the Columbia Autumn Invitational.
