St. John’s to Host Connecticut and Seton Hall

Red Storm Senior Day will be held on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2021) – The St. John's volleyball team will play host to Connecticut and Seton Hall in its final two home matches of the season.
The Johnnies return to action against Connecticut on Friday at 3 p.m. before facing Seton Hall on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Red Storm will host its Senior Day in conjunction with the Seton Hall match. Both matches this weekend will be streamed and available on ESPN3.
St. John's fell to both DePaul and Marquette during its seventh weekend of league play. The Red Storm dropped the first set against DePaul, 25-20, before flipping the switch and taking the second set, 25-20. The Blue Demons closed the match with scores of 25-23, and 25-22. Marquette won the first set against the Johnnies, 25-23, before dropping the next two sets, 25-19, and 28-26. The Wildcats took the last two sets, 25-22, and 18-16.
Against Marquette, Ariadni Kathariou recorded a career-high 15 kills on a .600 hitting percentage becoming the first Red Storm athlete to hit over .550 since Hanna Wagner in 2017. For this achievement, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
On the national leaderboard, St. John's players continue to sit in top spots in multiple statistical categories. Rachele Rastelli currently leads the nation in both total points with 555 and total kills with 475. She is also no. 15 with 5.19 points per set, no. 19 with 4.44 kills per set and no. 21 with 1,105 total attacks. Tiziana Baumrukova is tied for 42nd with 917 total assists while Kathariou is third with 132 total blocks and 25th with 1.32 rejections per set.
St. John's currently ranks eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST standings boasting a .357 win percentage in conference play and a .500 clip overall. The Red Storm is ranked 89th in RPI. The mark is fifth in the conference after Creighton (13), Marquette (14) Connecticut (60) and DePaul (61).
Connecticut is currently third in the BIG EAST recording an 11-3 record in conference play. The Huskies had been selected to finish in a tie for sixth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Huskies are the only team in the conference besides St. John's to record a win over nationally-ranked Creighton. Last weekend, Connecticut swept both Georgetown and Villanova. The Huskies are led by reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Caylee Parker, who averages 3.30 kills per set.
Earlier this season, on Sept. 25, the Huskies took down the Johnnies in three sets advancing their all-time series lead to 16-11.
Seton Hall is currently ninth in the conference heading into the weekend with a 4-10 record in league play. The Pirates will face Connecticut on Saturday before coming to Queens. Seton Hall is coming off an 0-2 weekend marked by a four-set loss to Marquette and a five-set loss against DePaul. The Pirates are led by Perri Lucas with 2.61 kills per set while Preseason All-BIG EAST Pick Tsvetelina Ilieva averages 2.15 kills per set.
