The Johnnies will play a 46- game slate beginning on Feb. 11
QUEENS, N.Y. (Dec. 20, 2021) – Fourth-year St. John's Softball Head Coach Bob Guerriero has announced his team's schedule for the upcoming 2022 campaign.
Guerriero, who served as an assistant coach before taking over the reins of the program, will look to lead the Red Storm to its fourth BIG EAST Regular Season Championship since 2015. In 2015, the Red Storm also took home a BIG EAST Tournament title on its way to the program's first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
St. John's will kick off its 2022 campaign in Auburn, Ala. at the Auburn Tiger Classic beginning on Feb. 11. The exact schedule for the event has not yet been released, but the lineup will include games against Auburn, who received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament last spring, and UMass Lowell.
Two weeks later, the Red Storm will head to the Sunshine State for seven contests starting with an appearance at the USF Invitational. The Johnnies will kick off the tournament with a morning game against Fairfield on Feb. 25 before facing USF in the afternoon. The next day, the Johnnies will face Saint Joseph's in the morning. Competition for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning will be based on seeding from the previous games. This will be the sixth time in the last eleven years that St. John's will compete in an event hosted by USF.
The Johnnies will head to Florida Atlantic for a Tuesday matchup against the Owls before finishing their stay in the Sunshine State at Florida International on Wednesday.
The Johnnies will then head north to close out their 13-game road trip with a weekend slate against UMBC and Morgan State in Baltimore. The Johnnies will play each team once on March 5 and again on March 6 on the campus of UMBC.
After a month on the road to open the season, the Red Storm will return to Queens on March 11 to begin BIG EAST play against Connecticut. In a departure from years past, all regularly scheduled BIG EAST series will feature three games across three days as opposed to the traditional doubleheader-single game format.
Next, the Johnnies will host a mid-week matchup against Fairfield on March 15 before heading to Providence for a BIG EAST series against the Friars.
St. John's will then battle local foe Manhattan at Gaelic Park on March 22 before a weekend trip to face reigning BIG EAST Champion Villanova beginning on March 25.
On March 29, the Red Storm will host Stony Brook to kick off a stretch of eight straight games in New York. Creighton and St. John's will play the first of three games at Red Storm Field on April 1 before the Johnnies make a return trip to Stony Brook on April 5. The Red Storm will then welcome Butler for a three-game set beginning on April 8.
The Red Storm will face LIU in midweek action at home on April 13 before a weekend trip to the Windy City to meet DePaul. Because of the Easter holiday on Sunday, the Red Storm and Blue Demons will play a Friday doubleheader before wrapping the series with a single-game on Saturday.
After facing Iona on April 20 at Red Storm field, St. John's will enjoy a weekend off before traveling to Fordham on April 27.
Following a near two-week break from BIG EAST play, the Red Storm will travel to the nation's capital to take on Georgetown beginning on April 29.
St. John's will then venture to Iona for a midweek matchup on May 4 before hosting Seton Hall in a three-game set to close out the regular season beginning on March 6.
The BIG EAST Championship will be hosted by DePaul from May 12- May 14.
