BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year also earned All-America honors from United Soccer Coaches
QUEENS, N.Y. – Redshirt junior goalkeeper Luka Gavran earned his second All-America honor of the season on Tuesday, finding a spot on the College Soccer News All-America Second Team.
Â
Gavran, the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, earned the recognition after helping the Red Storm emerge as one of the nation's stingiest defensive units this fall.  With Gavran anchoring in net, the Johnnies ranked fifth nationally in team goals against average (0.63) and first in shutout percentage (0.60). Individually, Gavran's 12 clean sheets led the nation while his 0.57 goals against average ranked third. Gavran also paced Division I in save percentage, stopping 84.4 percent of opposing tries that found their target.
Â
Gavran became the first Johnnie to earn United Soccer Coaches All-America honors since 2008 and finished in a tie for third on the program's single-season record list for shutouts. The Hamilton, Ontario, native became the third member of the Red Storm to earn the conference's top goalkeeping honor.
Â
The Red Storm reached the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd time in the last 30 seasons, downing Princeton, 1-0, in the first round at Belson Stadium before falling to top-seeded Oregon State in Corvallis. The victory over the Tigers marked the 14th time in program history that the Red Storm won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament.Â
Â
The Johnnies finished the season with a record of 11-6-3, including a 5-3-2 mark in the BIG EAST. The conference sent five teams, nearly half of its membership, to the NCAA Round of 32. All three of the Red Storm's conference losses came in overtime, including two in double overtime against ranked foes.Â
