Bullpen Winter Banquet Set for Jan. 21

QUEENS, N.Y. – With the start of the 2022 college baseball season less than two months away, St. John's has announced the date for its annual Bullpen Winter Banquet celebration. For the first time, the fundraising event to support the Red Storm baseball program will be held on the Queens campus, as alumni and supporters are invited to the D'Angelo Center on Jan. 21.

This year's event will honor Frank Schwindel, a St. John's alumnus who burst onto the national scene this past season with the Chicago Cubs. After brief MLB stints with the Royals and Athletics, Schwindel joined the Cubs in late July and quickly took the North Side by storm. In 56 games with the Cubs, Schwindel slashed .342/.389/.613 with 13 homers, 19 doubles and 40 RBIs. He twice earned NL Rookie of the Month honors in August and October while receiving NL Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 5 after hitting .462 with five round trippers, four go-ahead hits and 12 RBIs in a span of only six games.

Schwindel, who was drafted in the 18^th round by Kansas City following his junior campaign, spent six successful seasons in the minors, twice being named the top offensive talent in the Royals' farm system.

While with the Red Storm, Schwindel posted stellar numbers in his two seasons as an everyday starter. In 2012, the sophomore hit .332 with four home runs and 30 RBIs for a St. John's squad that won BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament titles before advancing to the program's first Super Regional. The following year, Schwindel batted .349 and drove in 53 runs, leaving the yard five times to go along with 21 doubles.

Tickets to the Bullpen Winter Banquet can be purchased for $250. St. John's alumni can receive a discounted price of $225 while GOLD alumni (graduates of the last decade) can secure their seats at the event for just $200. Tables of 10 can be purchased for $2,000.

The dress code for this year's Bullpen Winter Banquet is business casual.

In accordance with city and state mandates, all attendees ages 12 and older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to attend the Bullpen Winter Banquet. Children between the ages of 5-11 must have received at least one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals will be expected to provide proof of vaccination along with corroborating government-issued ID.
