St. John’s to Host Hofstra for Midweek Contest

Red Storm has won six of the last seven games heading into Tuesday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team welcomes Hofstra for its final home game of the month of April on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch from Jack Kaiser Stadium set for 3 p.m.

The Johnnies have won six of their last seven games, including back-to-back BIG EAST series wins. This marks the second year in a row that the Red Storm has won its first two league series.
St. John's baseball will host its Derek "DJ" Southerland Remembrance Game, honoring the legacy of the beloved St. John's alumnus and athletics supporter. St. John's students at the game will receive a free pair of JLAB headphones, and fans can enjoy trivia questions honoring DJ's life throughout the game.
For the second straight week, a pair of Johnnies landed on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Evan Chaffee and Adam Agresti were tabbed for their performances over the weekend against Georgetown.
Chaffee earned the second win of the 2-1 weekend for the Johnnies, in Saturday's 9-0 victory over Georgetown. The redshirt junior tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and striking out eight for the second consecutive start. Agresti batted .500 over the weekend with four doubles and crushed his 13th home run of the season.
Red Storm (17-18, 5-1 BIG EAST) continued BIG EAST play with a three-game series against Georgetown at Jack Kaiser Stadium, taking two of three games.
The Red Storm opened the series with a 12-6 victory, using a seven-run fifth inning to pull away behind strong performances from Shaun McMillan, Adam Agresti and Ayden Frey. St. John's secured the series win on April 11 with a 9-0 shutout, as Evan Chaffee and Evan Hoeckele combined for a dominant effort on the mound while the offense tallied 14 hits. In the finale on April 12, the Johnnies battled back to tie the game late, but Georgetown scored five runs in the ninth inning to escape with a 10-7 victory.
Following last weekend's series win over Georgetown, St. John's tightened its grasp of first place in the BIG EAST standings. The Red Storm ranking second in the conference with a .974 fielding percentage. The pitching staff allows 8.95 hits per nine innings, good enough for second in the BIG EAST. It also sits third in the league with a 1.53 WHIP and 5.59 ERA, with the weekend starters holding an impressive 2.43 ERA.
Offensively, St. John's ranks in the top half of the BIG EAST in hits with 312 and RBIs with 183. The Johnnies also rank second in the league with 60 stolen bases.
Individually, Friday starter Liam O'Leary has been a reliable arm in the rotation, posting a 2.97 ERA across nine starts with 36 strikeouts. He also owns the BIG EAST's only complete game of the season. Chaffee has been equally effective, striking out 44 batters and walking just 16.
Agresti has been one of the league's top hitters, ranking second in the BIG EAST and 25th in Division I with 13 home runs. The backstop also leads the conference with 37 RBIs and is sixth with nine doubles. Jayder Raifstanger is tied for third in doubles with 11 and leads the team with 46 hits. Dylan Fitzsimmons and Will Cowan are tied for second in the BIG EAST with two triples apiece.
St. John's and Hofstra (11-18, 6-9 CAA) will meet for the 104th time on Tuesday in a series that dates back to 1943. The Jonnies are 84-19 overall against the Pride, holding a 35-5 mark in the friendly confines of Jack Kaiser Stadium. The Johnnies faced the Pride last season on April 15, 2025, when Hofstra took a close 7-6 win over St. John's in Queens.
Hofstra dropped its conference series against Stony Brook at home over the weekend. As a team, the Pride has been solid defensively, turning 27 double plays while posting a .971 fielding percentage for third best in the CAA.
Individually, Tyler Cox leads Hofstra with four homers and 39 RBIs. Michael Brown paces the Pride with a .340 batting average and 34 hits, while Gabriel Melara leads the offense with nine doubles. CJ Griggs has been disciplined at the plate with 29 walks, a mark that ranks 16th in the country. On the mound, Carlos Martinez has struck out 34 batters and ranks third in the conference with an average of 10.55 strikeouts per game.
St. John's starts an eight-game road swing this weekend to close out the month of April. The Johnnies travel to Storrs, Conn., for its first BIG EAST road series against UConn. The three-game set starts Friday.
