Baseball Falls Short in Series Finale Against Georgetown, 10-7

Red Storm’s comeback effort falls short
Despite falling behind, the Red Storm (17-18, 5-1 BIG EAST) were able to knot the game in the bottom of the eighth inning off a key Hoya (19-17, 2-4 BIG EAST) error. Georgetown went ahead in the top of the ninth and never looked back.
Six different Johnnies collected hits, with Jayder Raifstanger going 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of singles, a double and an RBI. Ayden Frey and Adam Agresti notched their multi-hit effort of the series, each recording a pair of hits. Jon LeGrande, Shaun McMillan and Rob Mansour collected a hit apiece.
Ian Mowad had a quality outing throwing 5.0 innings of six-hit, one run ball. Tyler Longoria, Dylan Johnson and Victor Frederick made appearances in relief.
St. John's got on the board early in the contest, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Following a Raifstanger double, Agresti laced a two-out double into down the left field line to score Raifstanger, 1-0.
Red Storm plated another run in the bottom of the third. After LeGrande was plunked, McMillan powered a ball to left field to bring around LeGrande to make it 2-0.
In the top of the fifth, Georgetown scored a pair to tie the contest at 2-2. The Hoyas took the lead in the seventh, hanging up three tallies to make it 5-2.
The Johnnies wouldn't go down quietly. In the bottom of the seventh frame, Mansour was hit by a pitch to start. With one out, LeGrande singled to left to put runners on first and second. Raifstanger followed with a single to plate Mansour and put runners on the corners. McMillan walked to load the bases, allowing Agresti to work a walk and come within one run, 5-4.
In the bottom of the eighth, both Cristian Bernardini and Mansour reached to start the inning. After advancing on a Lewis Rodriguez sacrifice bunt, LeGrande skyed a ball to center field and reached on an error allowing Bernardini to knot the contest at 5-5.
Georgetown exploded for five runs in the top of the ninth to regain the lead at 10-5.
St. John's was able to muster up a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, but Georgetown held on to avoid the sweep, 10-7.
The Johnnies are back in action on Tuesday, as they take on Hofstra. First pitch from Jack Kaiser Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
