St. John’s to Host Providence on Senior Day

The Red Storm welcomes the Friars for a pair of home matches on Friday and Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 18, 2021) – Following its sweep of Seton Hall last weekend, the St. John's volleyball team will welcome Providence to Carnesecca Arena for a pair of home matches on Friday and Saturday.
The two contests are both set for a 3 p.m. start time. The Red Storm will hold its Senior Day on Friday against the Friars. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with Ralph Bednarczyk on the call. An audio stream will be available for Saturday's contest on redstormsports.com.
St. John's (7-3, 3-2 BIG EAST) leads the conference in team hitting percentage, assists per set, kills per set and digs per set this season.
Efrosini Alexakou racked up 55 kills across the Johnnies' three matches last week. The junior outside hitter posted a match-high 21 kills against Villanova before registering a pair of 17-kill performances in St. John's two wins over Seton Hall. Alexakou became the 11th player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill mark during the Red Storm's four-set win over the Pirates on Saturday. The last Johnnie to join the 1,000-kill club was Julia Cast in 2017.
Alexakou currently ranks first in the league with 4.41 kills per set and second in the conference with 4.65 points per set.
Sophomore libero Iliana Rodriguez was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday after averaging 4.91 digs per set in the Red Storm's 2-1 week. Rodriguez led both teams with 22 digs in St. John's 3-1 win over Seton Hall.
Jordan McCalla dominated on the offensive end for the Johnnies on Saturday, racking up a match-high 20 kills while hitting at a .600 clip. McCalla had nine of her 20 kills come in the fourth set. Her .600 hitting percentage is the highest mark by a conference player this season.
Senior setter Tiziana Baumrukova sits in fifth place on the national leaderboard and first in the BIG EAST with 11.91 assists per set. Baumrukova dished out 52 helpers in the Red Storm's second meeting with the Pirates.
Providence (5-1, 3-1 BIG EAST) currently ranks second in the league standings, one spot behind No. 24 Creighton.
The Friars split their two contests with the Pirates before earning a pair of four-set victories against UConn last weekend.
Sophomore outside hitter Emma Nelson ranks fifth in the conference with 3.50 kills per set this season. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on March 16 after recording 26 kills across Providence's two matches against UConn.
Senior setter Allison Barber also earned a spot on the league honor roll on Tuesday after averaging 10.50 assists per set in the Friars' 2-0 week. Preseason All-BIG EAST Team selection Jennifer Leitman has racked up 74 kills and 51 digs this spring.
The Red Storm owns a 20-5 all-time record against the Friars.
