Red Storm senior to graduate from St. John’s this May, continue tennis career
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's tennis student-athlete Aditya Vashistha has decided to opt-out of the 2021 spring competition season. The Red Storm senior will graduate from St. John's this May and intends to pursue a graduate degree while continuing his tennis career.
"I am sad to end my St. John's journey later this spring, but I will always be a part of the St. John's family. My sincere thanks to Coach Dillion [Pottish]. He is a great guy and always looking to help his players. Mr. [Mike] Cragg, our Athletic Director, is just phenomenal at his job. He is always helping student-athletes achieve their full potential. I also have tremendous respect for Mr. [John] Diffley. He has done an incredible with controlling Covid-19 on campus and has always been very helpful to me. It was an extremely tough decision, and I am very proud to have represented St. John's in my collegiate career. Go Red Storm!"
Vashistha, who transferred from Utah State following his freshman season, became the highest-ranked player in program history a season ago when he checked-in as high as No. 40 on the ITA Rankings. The native of Bikaner, India, went 16-4 in singles play a season ago, including 7-1 in the spring, while defeating two ranked opponents. During his sophomore season, Vashistha was an integral part of the BIG EAST Championship team, as he went 13-3 in the spring.
"Addy will always be part of the St. John's family here," said Head Coach Dillon Pottish. "He was a tremendous player with a great work ethic. Most importantly, he was of high character on and off the court. I wish him all the best in the future."
Vashistha will finish his studies at St. John's this spring and graduate in May with a degree in business.
