Linda Wang led the way for the Red Storm and finished seventh overall
The St. John's women's golf team closed out play at the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational on Monday, placing second overall in the standings.
For the fourth time in as many events this season, the Red Storm squad finished inside the top-two. As a team, St. John's shot a combined 299-307=606 at the two-day 36-hole event.
"The team had another solid performance this week," Head Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo said. "We battled rain and cooler temperatures both days, but the team stayed patient to post a second-place finish in a tough Northeast field."
Graduate student Linda Wang led the way for the Johnnies, carding a 73 and 76. The Fresh Meadows, N.Y., native wrapped up play with a team-best six birdies over two rounds of action.
Sophomore Jill Beglin, who was competing as an individual, finished one-stroke back of Wang, signing off on a 76 and 74 to finish in a tie for 10th place. The Carson, City, Nev., native's final round effort was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 13th hole.
"Linda had a strong performance with her seventh place finish and Jill also had a great tournament with a top-10 finish," Bishop-Santillo said. "We will continue to build on this momentum in preparation for the BIG EAST Championship next week."
Freshman Angelica Kusnowo and junior Jessie Kweon both produced top-15 performances for the Red Storm, turning in scores of 74-78=152 and 76-77=153, respectively.
Senior Andrea Sanchez and sophomore Cloe Clocchiatti rounded out scoring for the Red Storm lineup with scores of 79-76=155 and 76-81=157.
Sophomore Laia Barro, who was competing as an individual, signed off on an 87 and 91 at the SHU Invitational.
The Red Storm will have a quick turnaround, as the Johnnies return to action on April 14, to participate in a tri match hosted by Fairfield.
