Men’s Golf Concludes Play at the Connecticut Cup

Johnnies close out play ninth overall in the standings
The St. John's men's golf team closed out play at the Connecticut Cup on Saturday, placing ninth overall in the standings.
As a team, St. John's turned in a combined score of 303-309-311=923 at the three-day 54-hole event. Boston College carded a three-round 875 to capture the team title and finish 21 strokes ahead of second-place Connecticut.
Junior Jack Simon paced the way for the Red Storm, finishing 16th overall with scores of 74-76-76=226. The Sparta, N.J., native drained six birdies on the weekend.
Classmate Tyler Gerbavsits finished one stroke back of Simon with scores off 73-83-71=227. The Huntington, N.Y., native put forth his best effort on Saturday, carding a 1-under 71. Gerbavsits final-round effort was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 13th hole.
Sophomore Alex Kyriacou turned in a 75-78-81=234 at the 54-hole event. Junior Joseph Busiello (84-76-83=243) and sophomore Ryan Rittberger (81-79-84=244) rounded out play for the Red Storm.
Freshman Doug Beney, who was competing as an individual, finished with scores off 77-76-77-230.
St. John's will return to action on Monday, when the Johnnies host the Red Storm Invitational at Engineers Country Club.
