Red Storm to play eight games across four weekends
QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2021) – St. John's Softball Head Coach Bob Guerriero has announced his team's 2021 fall schedule, as the Johnnies will play eight contests in the state of New York, including six at Red Storm Field.
The Johnnies will open the fall with a doubleheader against Manhattan on Sept. 18. First pitch with the Jaspers is scheduled for 10 a.m., with the second game to follow at approximately 12:30 p.m. Manhattan finished the 2021 season with a 22-16 overall record, including a 17-13 effort in MAAC play. The Jaspers qualified for the last spot in the MAAC Tournament before rolling through the field and earning a spot in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional.
The following weekend on Sept. 25, St. John's will host a pair of games in Queens, hosting LIU and Iona at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
The Sharks went 27-9 and reached the NEC Championship Game in 2021, their second season since the merger of Division II LIU Post and Division I LIU Brooklyn. The Gaels are coming off a 2021 season that saw them go 22-12 and finish third in the MAAC.
Seven days later on Oct. 2, the Johnnies will face off against Queens College and Wagner at Red Storm Field. First pitch against Queens is scheduled for 10 a.m. while the Wagner contest will begin at 12:30 p.m.
The Division II Chargers won just four of 24 games last season. The Seawolves went 12-21 and finished seventh in the America East.
The Red Storm will conclude its fall season at Fordham on Oct. 9 with games against Monmouth and the host Rams at to-be-determined times. Monmouth won the MAAC Regular Season Championship with a conference record of 25-7 in 2021 while Fordham went 37-10 and finished second in the Atlantic 10 North Division.
The recent 2021 season led to a string of postseason accolades for St. John's, as graduate students Marissa Rizzi and Kaitlin Mattera earned spots on the 2021 NFCA DI Great Lakes Second and Third teams, respectively. Both Rizzi and Mattera were named to All-BIG EAST Teams, as was Gretchen Bowie, who garnered a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team for the fourth consecutive season.
St. John's wrapped up the 2021 regular season with a 10-21 overall record and a sixth-place finish in the BIG EAST.
