St. John’s to Host DePaul in BIG EAST Home Opener

The Johnnies and the Blue Demons will kick off at 1 p.m.
After shutting out Connecticut in its BIG EAST opener on Thursday evening, the St. John's women's soccer team will begin the home portion of its conference schedule on Sunday afternoon when it welcomes DePaul to Belson Stadium for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
The game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Drew Casey on the call from Queens.
Coming off their fifth clean sheet of the season, the Johnnies will look to secure back-to-back BIG EAST wins in Sunday's meeting with the Blue Demons. In the Red Storm's most recent 3-0 victory over the Huskies, a trio of players found the back of the net, as Brooke Boyd, Zsani Kajan and Isabelle Aviza all converted on a goal in Storrs.
Kajan, the Red Storm's leading scorer, netted her 10th goal of the year in the 46th minute against UConn. The Budapest, Hungary, native is the only player in program history to record double-digit scoring in three different seasons, as she logged a career-high 11 scores in 2018 and again in 2019. With the tally against Connecticut, Kajan improved her career total to 38 goals, passing Cristin Burtis and moving into third on the Red Storm's all-time scoring list. Entering the weekend, Kajan leads both the conference and the nation in goals per game with 1.25.
Naya Lipkens played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Red Storm at UConn, making two critical saves to preserve the clean sheet. Through eight games this year, Lipkens is boasting a goals against average of 0.98 and a .771 save percentage to rank inside the top-10 in the BIG EAST for both statistical categories.
DePaul comes to Queens with a record of 3-5-0 after defeating Eastern Illinois, 3-0, last Saturday.
Morgan Turner, a spring 2021 Second Team All-BIG EAST Selection., leads the Blue Demons offensively with four goals through eight games this season.
Senior goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson has played every minute between the pipes for DePaul this year, turning in a goals against average of 0.75 and a .813 save percentage.
Sunday will mark the 10th all-time meeting between the Johnnies and the Blue Demons with DePaul holding an all-time 5-3-1 advantage. This matchup between the two BIG EAST teams will be the first since the 2019 campaign.
Following Sunday's contest, St. John's will welcome Butler to Belson Stadium on Sept. 30 for a 7 p.m. showdown.
