Peicheng Chen Named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week

Chen finishes second in first collegiate event
After finishing second overall in the standings in his first collegiate event last weekend, freshman Peicheng Chen has been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Chen opened up action at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational on Saturday, turning in scores of 74 and 71, respectively. The Johnnies' newcomer combined for a team-high seven birdies over the first 36 holes.

After turning in a 1-over 145 to complete day one in a seven-way tie for 10th, Chen rose eight spots to match Ryan Tall of Lafayette and Brandon Gillis of Rhode Island in second. Chen drained six birdies over the final round, to sign off on a score of 2-under 70.

The Red Storm rookie wrapped up play with 13 total birdies to lead the team and tie Seton Hall's Angus O'Brien for the third most at the event.

Chen and the Red Storm will return to action on Sept. 11-12 for The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage State Park Red Course.
