Aaron Wheeler scores a career-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting for the Red Storm

OMAHA, Neb. – The St. John's men's basketball team dropped a road decision at Creighton on Wednesday, falling to the Bluejays, 87-64, inside CHI Health Center Omaha.

Julian Champagnie, the leading scorer in the BIG EAST entering the week, tallied a team-high 17 points, 14 of which came in the second half. The junior from Brooklyn reached double figures for the 40^th straight game dating back to the start of his sophomore campaign.

Aaron Wheeler continued his stretch of stellar play, netting a career-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a 2-for-3 effort from beyond the arc. The Stamford, Conn. native, who is now shooting 9-for-17 from deep in BIG EAST play, also grabbed six boards and blocked two shots. Wheeler has now reached double figures in each of the last four games.

Dylan Addae-Wusu stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes of action.

For the first time this season, Posh Alexander did not finish in double figures, tallying nine points on 4-of-8 shooting to go along with three assists.

Freshman O'Mar Stanley added six points in 12 minutes of action.

As a team, the Bluejays (11-5, 3-2 BIG EAST) shot 50.0 percent from the floor and went 14-of-27 (51.9%) from beyond the arc. Duke transfer Alex O'Connell scored a game-high 28 points, going 9-for-14 from the floor and 6-of-9 from three-point range.

After a bucket from Addae-Wusu to open the scoring, Creighton went off on a 7-0 run that was followed quickly by an 11-0 burst to take a 20-7 lead with just over six minutes gone in the contest.

The Red Storm (10-6, 2-3 BIG EAST) responded with a 7-0 spurt to pull within six, as Addae-Wusu converted on an old-fashioned three-point play before Wheeler threw down back-to-back dunks.

Within five, 30-25, following a transition layup from Montez Mathis, the Red Storm saw Creighton rip off a 12-3 run to move back ahead 14. O'Connell drained three triples, including a four-point play, to score the final 10 points of the rally.

St. John's logged the first three points of the second half to pull within 12, but that was as close as the Red Storm would get the rest of the way, as Creighton ripped off a 17-2 run to move ahead by 27 with less than seven minutes gone in the period.

The Bluejays led by as many as 30 in the closing minutes before the Red Storm held Creighton scoreless for the final four minutes of the contest.

St. John's will return to action on Saturday when it hosts local rival Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. The Johnnies will make a return trip to South Orange just two days later when they play in Walsh Gymnasium for the first time since 1985.
