Johnnies to Face DePaul on FS1

St. John’s readies for rematch with DePaul on Friday night.
QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2022) – The St. John's women's basketball team heads to Chicago for a BIG EAST matchup with DePaul on Friday night at Wintrust Arena.
Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET on FS1 with Bob Brainerd and Meghan McKeown on the call.
The Red Storm enters the contest following an 80-52 win at Georgetown on Tuesday night. As a team, St. John's shot 39.1 percent for the game and went 13-for-34 from three. The Red Storm bench outscored Georgetown 48-13 during the win. The Johnnies also scored 32 points off turnovers and 14 fast break points.
Four players scored in double figures, as Camree Clegg led the Red Storm (6-12, 2-6 BIG EAST) with a career-high 20 points including five 3-pointers. Rayven Peeples posted a double-double, logging 16 points and 10 rebounds against the Hoyas (6-9, 1-6 BIG EAST). Sitota Gines and Danielle Cosgrove rounded out the Johnnies' top scorers, chipping in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
St. John's Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella recorded his 176th career win during the Red Storm's victory over Georgetown on Tuesday night. The win tied the record set by Tartamella's mentor, Kim Barnes Arico, for first place on the program's all-time wins list. In his 10 years at the helm, Tartamella boasts a 176-127 record. Tartamella spent nine seasons on Barnes Arico's staff, starting as a graduate assistant in 2002 before serving three years as an assistant coach and four seasons as the program's associate head coach. Tartamella has been to six postseasons as the Red Storm's head coach, including a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2016, his Johnnies won the program's first BIG EAST title since 1988.
As a team, the Red Storm ranks second in the conference, averaging 73.5 points per game. The Johnnies also rank third with a free-throw percentage of 77.9. Leilani Correa places second in the BIG EAST, scoring 19.4 points per outing. Kadaja Bailey sits eighth in the league in the category with 14.6 points per game. Clegg ranks 10th in the conference with 3.4 assists per game
DePaul comes into the weekend at 16-5 this season with an 8-2 mark in conference play. During their last game, the Blue Demons fell to No. 10 UConn, 80-78. Aneesah Morrow finished with 30 points and 14 rebounds to lead the team.
The Blue Demons lead the nation in scoring offense (91.4). The team also ranks first in the league with 10.4 steals per game and 16.7 offensive rebounds per outing. Morrow averages a league-leading double-double with 20.8 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. Sonya Morris ranks third in the conference with 18.0 points per game.
This will be the 29th meeting between the programs. The Johnnies trail the Blue Demons 23-5 all time with the last win at DePaul coming in 2016.
