Two Johnnies shoot even par or better at Saucon Valley Country Club
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After 18 holes at the Lehigh Invitational on Monday, the St. John's women's golf team sits in third place.
The Red Storm (+15) is three shots behind Howard (+12) in second and eight strokes behind the first-round leader, Navy (+7). The Johnnies are currently ahead of 13 squads in the 16-team event.
Two members of the Red Storm shot even par or better in Monday's opening round at Saucon Valley Country Club's Grace Course.
Jesse Kweon is tied for the Monday lead after firing off an opening-round 71 (-1). The graduate student birdied both par 3s on the back nine.
Sophomore Karen Beglin also made easy work of the inward nine, carding three birdies on her way to a two-under 34. She finished the day with an even-par 72, good enough for a tie for third behind Kweon and Navy's Mara Hirtle.
Cloe Clocchiatti (T21) was one over through 15 holes before finishing with a four-over 76. Angelica Kusnowo (84) and Amy Kim (90) rounded out the Red Storm scorers.
Competing as an individual, Laia Barro carded a 78 to sit in a tie for 28th after 18 holes.
The Lehigh Invitational will wrap tomorrow at Saucon Valley Country Club. Round two will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. in an effort to avoid inclement weather.
