Both graduate students played a big part in the Red Storm’s semifinal appearance
QUEENS, N.Y.- Following the conclusion of the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday evening, Melina Couzis and Katherine Turner were named to the All-Tournament Team, the conference announced.Â
Â
Couzis, a UConn transfer, played a big part in the Red Storm advancing past the Huskies in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship. Beyond her stellar play in the midfield, she was the catalyst to the Johnnies' equalizing goal in regulation, sending a ball into the penalty box that eventually found Isabelle Aviza for the score. For the season, Couzis appeared in 18 matches with 14 starts and tied for the team lead in assists with five helpers. The Baldwin Place, N.Y., native also added a tally of her own in the 2-0 win over Navy on Sept. 2.Â
Â
Turner was an integral part of the Red Storm defense throughout the regular season and through the duration of the tournament. The graduate student started every game this season at center back for the Johnnies. Turner logged the most playing time of any outfield player on the roster this season at 1,749 minutes in 19 matches. Sunday's announcement marks the second straight year the London native has landed a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team after she earned the distinction in 2021 as the Red Storm advanced to the final against Georgetown.Â
