Knapp becomes just the second player in program history to earn conference honors four times
Â
The league distinction marks the fourth of Knapp's stellar career. The Abingdon, Md., native becomes just the second player in the storied history of St. John's men's soccer to earn All-BIG EAST honors four times. The graduate student joins legendary Johnnie Chris Wingert, who garnered conference honors four times from 2000-03 and won the MAC Hermann Trophy during his final season.Â
Â
After leading the team in goals and to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021, Knapp saw his role shift during his final season, anchoring the Red Storm backline at center back. The veteran started all 17 games for the Red Storm logging over 1,500 minutes. Despite sliding into a defensive role, the defender added two goals and one assist, including a made penalty kick in a 3-1 victory over the league's eventual regular season champion Georgetown on Sept. 16.
Â
Midway through the 2022 campaign, Knapp was tabbed the no. 54 player in the country on TopDrawer Soccer Midseason Top 100 on Oct. 20. He has collected a plethora of accolades during his tenure in Queens, including four All-BIG EAST nods and a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All East Region Third Team in 2021.Â
Â
After transferring from Marist, Sienkel instantly became a catalyst for the Johnnies attack this fall. The redshirt junior led the team with seven goals, which ranked knotted for fourth in the BIG EAST. Sienkel emerged as a primary offensive threat for the Red Storm when he recorded the first hat-trick by a St. John's player since 2004 in a 5-0 drubbing of Lehigh on Sept. 2. The Newtown, Pa., native created opportunities for teammates, posting two assists, including a find to Adrian Roseth for the game-winner against DePaul on Oct. 12.Â
Â
The conference recognition marks the second of Sienkel's career. At Marist, he was named to the 2021 All-MAAC Second Team.
Â
Wednesday's announcement marks the fifth time in the last six seasons that St. John's has had multiple players garner conference recognition.
