QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2022) – St. John's Softball Head Coach Bob Guerriero has announced the addition of two players to the program's 2022 recruiting class.
Sabrina Seaton and Elanna Lysiak will join a previously announced group of five student-athletes: Cassidy Stouffer, Sydney Totarsky, Katie Whittaker, Ana Serafinko and Jess Bianco.
Seaton, a product of California, will be the third West Coast signee in the class of 2022. The corner infielder is a four-year varsity player at Esperanza High School. As an Aztec, she made an immediate impact, earning a spot on the All-League Second Team her freshman year. As a junior, Seaton led the 2021 D1 CIF Champions with seven home runs, 39 RBIs and 20 walks over the course of just 24 games. After posting a .329 batting average and a. 743 slugging average, Seaton was elevated to the All-League First Team and recognized as the league's Offensive Player of the Year.
"Sabrina will bring a solid presence at both corner positions with her glove and strong arm," said Guerriero. "Her power with the bat will be an additional threat to our opponents and will bolster our lineup."
In addition to her work with the Aztecs, Seaton is a power hitter for her travel ball team, the California Monarchs 18U Gold.
The Golden State native is a four-year scholar-athlete and distinguished scholar boasting a 4.4+ GPA every semester. She will graduate in the top 10 of her class.
Lysiak is a native of Western New York and will come to Queens following her senior season at Niagara Wheatfield High School. With the Falcons, Lysiak has made her mark, as she was named the 2021 Niagara Frontier League Player of the Year and 2021 Niagara Gazette Player of the Year in addition to earning a spot on the 2021 All-Western New York First Team. A two-year captain, she boasted a .518 batting average, complete with 10 home runs, 27 extra-base hits, and 60 RBIs over the course of her junior season. As short shop, she recorded a .933 fielding percentage.
"Elanna is a versatile player who can play all outfield positions as well as third base if needed," said Guerriero. "She has very good speed and is a strong player who has the potential to wield a powerful bat."
Lysiak plays her travel ball for USSSA Pride, tallying nine home runs, 60 hits and 40 RBIs on a .522 batting average during the last year. She also recorded 28 stolen bases. In addition to the Pride, she is also a member of the TC Tremors. A two-sport athlete, Lysiak also captained the Falcon's volleyball team and was named the Niagara Frontier League 2021 Player of the Year, as well as earning spots on the All-Western New York and All-State teams. With a 4.0 GPA, she ranks 15th out of 276 students and is the president of her schools' DECA club and a member of the LYNC program.
The St. John's softball team will look to grab its second BIG EAST Tournament Championship and its fourth BIG EAST Regular Season Championship since 2015 when the 2022 season kicks off on Feb. 11 in Auburn, Ala.
