Johnnies take every match in clean sweep of the Mountain Hawks
BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The St. John's women's tennis team picked up a road victory on Sunday over Lehigh, 7-0.
The Johnnies (6-5) completed a clean sweep of the Mountain Hawks inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
Mouna Bouzgarrou, Lalita Devarakonda, Jayden Nielsen, Yesica de Lucas and Willa Bay Breunich all contributed to the point total. All five Johnnies tallied a win in their singles matches, respectively.
In doubles, Nielsen and de Lucas continued to impress with a 6-0 decision over Lehigh's top pair Hamsa Javagal and Junmoke James.
Bouzgarrou posted her seventh win on the no. 1 court on Sunday. The senior recorded a straight-set victory over the Mountain Hawks' Javagal, 6-2, 6-2. Nielsen joined her teammate with her seventh win of the spring campaign in a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Megha Dania.
Devarakonda won her fourth match in her last five tries in Bethlehem. The Long Beach State transfer outlasted James, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Breunich compiled a straight set sweep against Brenda Caudra, 6-0,6-0.
St. John's will be back in action on Friday to host Fairfield. The match between the Red Storm and the Stags is set to begin at noon.
