St. John’s in Second after First Round at Wildcat Invitational

Three Red Storm golfers sit in the top-10 after the opening round
VILLANOVA, Pa. – After the first day of the Wildcat Invitational at Radnor Valley Country Club, the St. John's men's golf team sits in second place with a combined score of 285.
BIG EAST foe Marquette finished the opening round as the leaders in the clubhouse, shooting a 1-over, 281 for the day. The Golden Eagles led the field with 63 pars through 18 holes. Meanwhile, the Red Storm paced the pack, posting 17 birdies for the event.
Jack Simon and Ryan Rittberger finished the day locked in a tie for sixth place when they each shot an even-par 70 during the opening round. Simon concluded his round with a pair of birdies during the final three holes. Rittberger also closed out his outing on a high note, tallying a birdie on the final hole of the day.
Gage Wolfle finished a stroke behind the duo, shooting 1-over par (71) for the round to tie for 10th place. Tyler Gerbavsits logged five birdies for the day, tying for second most in the field, as the junior finished tied for 33rd place with a 74. Rounding out the team was Peicheng Chen, who carded a 75 in the opening round to tie for 42nd place.
The 36-hole event on the par-70, 6,572-yard course will finish with the final round on Tuesday. Live stats will be available on GolfStat.com
