St. John’s Finishes Round Two at the BIG EAST Championship

Ryan Rittberger posts 2-under 70 during the second round
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The St. John's men's golf team showed improvements during their second round of the 2022 BIG EAST Championship at the Mountain View Course at Callaway Gardens as the team moved into sixth place on Tuesday.
The Red Storm squad shot a combined 2-under par 286 as a team. The Johnnies sit at 8-over for the tournament with a combined 584.
Marquette and Connecticut are locked in a tie for first place at 6-under (570). The Golden Eagles shot 1-over (289) on the day while reigning BIG EAST Champions UConn fired off a 5-under (283) performance on day two. Coming into the clubhouse a stroke behind the leaders was Seton Hall as the Pirates post a 571 for the tournament.
Ryan Rittberger led the way for the Johnnies as the junior shot a 2-under 70 for a two-day total of 144. The Greenlawn, N.Y., native logged four birdies and moved into a tie for 13th place. Finishing a stroke behind Rittberger was Jack Simon as the senior's 145 for the tournament placed him in a tie for 16th. Simon fired off a 1-over 73 during his second round.
Peicheng Chen signed off on an even 72 to put the freshman tied for 24th at the event with a two-day total of 147. Gage Wolfle carded a 1-under 71 for the second round to finish tied for 28th. The junior sits just one stroke behind the Beijing native at 148 for the tournament.
Rounding out the Red Storm squad was Tyler Gerbavsits, who is locked in a tie for 37th with a score of 151 after 36 holes. The Huntington, N.Y., native joined Chen as the only St. John's players to post an eagle during the tournament as he finished with a 73 for the day. The Red Storm is just one of three programs with multiple eagles for the event.
