Men’s Golf Closes Out Play at BIG EAST Championship

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The St. John's men's golf team concluded the 2022 BIG EAST Championship at the Mountain View Course at Callaway Gardens on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Storm finished in sixth place, posting a team total of 295 during the final round for an 879 for the event. The sixth place finish marked the program's best at the conference championship since the 2015-16 season.
Seton Hall took home the tournament title as the team shot a 15-under 849 for the event. Marquette finished just behind the Pirates as the Golden Eagles shot a 12-under par 852 for the tournament. Coming in third place was Connecticut, who shot an 860 for the 54-hole tournament
Jack Simon led the way for the Johnnies as the senior fired off five birdies during the final round to finish at 2-under (70) for the day. The Sparta, N.J. native tied for eighth place overall with a three-day total of 215.
Ryan Rittberger came into the clubhouse, shooting a 74 during the final round. The junior's 218 for the even placed him in a tie for 17th. Gage Wolfle tied for 30th place as the Sewell, N.J., native shot a 76 during his final round to finish with a total of 224.
Locked in a tie for 35th was Tyler Gerbavsits as the senior carded a 75 during his final round for a 54-hole total of 226. Peicheng Chen rounded out the Johnnie squad as the freshman signed off on an 81 for the final round. The rookie finished his first conference event in 42nd place.
Both Seton Hall's Gregor Tait and UConn's Caleb Manuel were named co-medalists at the BIG EAST Championship as each golfer recorded an 11-under 205 at the event.
