St. John’s Competes at NCAA East Preliminaries

Three Red Storm sprinters took on the best in the nation in Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Three student-athletes from the St. John's women's track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition at the preliminary round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Robert C. Haugh Complex in Bloomington, Ind on Thursday afternoon.
Leah Anderson represented the Red Storm in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. The Mount Vernon, N.Y., native placed 31st in the 200 meters, posting a time of 23.50. Anderson also competed in the 400-meter sprint, recording a mark of 53.65 to finish fourth in her heat and 29th overall against some of the best track athletes in the nation.
In her NCAA Preliminary debut, Skyy Diop joined Anderson in the 400-meter dash and crossed the line with exactly 54 seconds on the timer to secure 34th place overall.
The other sprinter to qualify for multiple events, Tatyana McKenzie also competed in the first NCAA Preliminaries of her Red Storm career. McKenzie started her day with a time of 12.01 in the 100-meter dash and concluded her afternoon in Bloomington, Ind., with a mark of 24.66 in the 200-meter sprint.
The Red Storm will compete in one more event at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Saturday when Anderson, Diop, McKenzie and Mandana Vouillemin will take part in the 4x400-meter relay. The race is scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m.
