Leah Anderson Named BIG EAST Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Track & Field standout will receive a $2,000 scholarship toward graduate study
QUEENS, N.Y. – The BIG EAST has named Leah Anderson as the St. John's Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced this morning by the conference office.

Anderson, who holds a multitude of St. John's records on the track, will receive a $2,000 scholarship to be used toward her graduate studies.

The conference's Most Outstanding Track Performer at both indoor and outdoor championships this past season, Anderson took gold in both the 200-meter and 400-meter events in Storrs this past May, including a BIG EAST record 51.92 in the 400-meter dash. Anderson was also a part of the first-place 4x100-meter relay squad alongside Skyy Diop, Tatyana McKenzie and Mandana Vouillemin. In February at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, Anderson set indoor conference records for both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, crossing the line in 23.41 and 52.94, respectively.

Anderson is no stranger to BIG EAST honors, having also won Most Outstanding Performer honors at the 2020 indoor championships and the 2019 outdoor championships. She holds the program indoor records for both the 200 and 400-meter races and the outdoor record for the 400-meter dash.

In addition to her record-shattering career on the track, Anderson completed her undergraduate career with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.
