The six-meet slate features four meets in the Greater New York Metropolitan Area
QUEENS, N.Y.- St. John's women's cross country head coach Elliott Blount has announced the schedule for the 2022 campaign.
The Johnnies' slate features six meets outside of NCAA competition with four of those six taking place within the state of New York. Three races will be held at nearby Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
The Red Storm will open the season by traveling to Stony Brook, N.Y., to compete in the Stony Brook Invite on Friday, Sept. 3. This marks the first time St. John's has commenced a cross country campaign away from Van Cortlandt Park since 2015 when it took part in the Monmouth Invite on Sept. 12.
After a 13-day break, Coach Blount's squad will head to the Bronx to race in the Brother John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions on Sept. 16. In 2019, then-freshman Claire Cushing crossed the finish line at 19:40.8 as the Red Storm finished 11th as a team.
The Johnnies will then make the trip north to take part in the Battle at Beantown in Boston on Sept. 23.
St. John's will open the month of October with two meets at Van Cortlandt Park. On Oct. 7, the Red Storm will compete against area schools in the Metropolitan Championships. Last season, the Johnnies notched their best-ever finish at the event when they secured second place. The following week, on Oct. 14, Blount's squad will battle in the ECAC Cross Country Championships.
The Red Storm will meet its league foes at the BIG EAST Championships in Providence, R.I., on Oct. 29. Both the men's and women's meets will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Should any student-athlete qualify, the NCAA Northeast Regional will take place in the Bronx on Nov. 11, with the NCAA Championship coming eight days later on Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla.
