Loreley Francia and Paige Sterling ink National Letters of Intent
QUEENS, N.Y. (Aug. 24, 2022) – St. John's Softball Head Coach Bob Guerriero has announced the addition of Loreley Francia and Paige Sterling to the program's 2022 recruiting class.
Francia, a product of Houston, Texas, will bolster the Red Storm's pitching staff. Francia helped guide her team, the Klein Collins Lady Tigers, to a district championship, boasting a 7-0 record with 67 strikeouts and a 0.17 ERA. During her senior season, she held opposing batters to just a .053 batting average, seven hits and only one earned run. Behind the plate, Francia produced a .406 batting average. For her achievements, Francia was named District 15-6A's Most Valuable Player. The incoming freshman was also named to the district's all-academic teams in 2020, 2021 and 2022, as well as the Academic All-State teams by the Texas High School Coaches' Association and the Texas Army National Guard.
"Lorely brings a solid pitching reputation from high school and travel ball in Texas," said Guerrerio. "She has a very competitive attitude in the circle and uses an array of pitches to combat her opponents in the batter's box. She completes the pitching staff for 2022-23 season, and we are expecting great things from her."
Francia plays her travel ball for the Texas Sudden Impact. This summer, she boasted a 10-0 record and a 3.462 ERA across 91 innings.
Sterling arrives in Queens from Caruthers, Calif., becoming the fourth West Coast signee in the class of 2022. Sterling is a utility player from Caruthers High School that helped lead her team to a Southern California Championship during her senior season. As a Blue Raider, she batted a career .562 with 136 hits and 137 RBIs across three seasons. During her senior campaign, she boasted a .570 batting average with 8 homers and 61 RBIs. The California native is a three-time All-League selection and was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman. Most recently, she was named First-Team All-State.
"Sterling is a welcomed utility player that will be able to fill any voids defensively we may come across," said Guerriero. "She is a nice hitting player with deceptive power and a tough out at the plate. She is another big-time competitor that will bolster the 2022-23 roster."
Aside from softball, Sterling is a three-time section champion with the Blue Raiders basketball team where she won a state championship her freshman year. Sterling was also a member of the volleyball and cheerleading squads during her high school career.
The duo will complete Guerrerio's nine-payer 2022 class, as they join Johnnies signees- Cassidy Stouffer, Sydney Totarsky, Katie Whittaker, Ana Serafinko, Jess Bianco, Sabrina Seaton and Elanna Lysiak for the upcoming season.
