Red Storm scheduled to compete in six competitions
QUEENS, N.Y.- St. John's men's tennis Head Coach Dillon Pottish has announced the six-event fall schedule for the Red Storm.Â
Â
The Johnnies will start off at the Hofstra Invite on Sept. 24., which will mark this first time since 2019 the event has been held.Â
Â
The following week, those who qualify will venture to Tulsa, Okla. to compete at the ITA All-American Championships. The nation's top Division I players will faceoff at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center from Oct. 1-9. In last year's tournament, four Johnnies- Udayan Bhakar, Ignacio Garcia, Axel Vila Antuna and Yaron Guberman tallied five combined victories.Â
Â
On Oct. 7-9, St. John's will travel to Philadelphia for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Northeast Regionals to take on opponents from across the region at UPenn. The top finishers at the three-day event will advance to the ITA Super Regionals two weeks later from Oct. 21-24 at Harvard. Last year, Vila Antuna and Garcia carved their way through the doubles bracket and advanced into the semifinal round.Â
Â
In between the two ITA regional tournaments, the Red Storm will participate in the Army Invite on Oct. 15-16, in West Point, N.Y.Â
Â
The fall season will conclude with another trip to the City of Brotherly Love, to partake in the Drexel Invite. The hidden dual competition will occur on Nov. 4-5.Â
Â
The Johnnies are coming off a 2021 campaign where they made their third-straight BIG EAST Championship match appearance and posted a dual-match record of 17-6. Pottish is set to return a pair of all-conference selections in Vila Antuna (First Team) and Carl Gustavsson (Second Team) to his squad. Â
